The Slice

Paul’s People, No. 76

Katie has faced profound health challenges, but that has never defined her.
Katie has faced profound health challenges, but that has never defined her.

This is Katie Delderfield, who is the star of my column this coming Sunday.

Today was the first time we had met in person. But we have been occasional correspondents for about 10 years.

I like her, for several reasons.

Once, back in 2006, I ran a column item about airport security and having multiple artificial joints, as she does.

And one time in 2007, I wrote about Katie preparing dinner and noticing the cornstarch she was about to use had a 1985 expiration date.

That same year, The Slice was running a series of little stories about people misspeaking. I didn't identify Katie by name then, to protect her mom's identity. But I asked her this morning if I could rerun that item. She gave me the green light.

Here it is:

Elsewhere, a mom and her 25-year-old daughter were talking about the amazing force with which the family cat threw up. Not trying to be funny, the mom referred to this as "erectile vomiting."

Her daughter is pretty sure she meant to say "projectile."

Thanks, Katie.
