The Slice

The TV show/Spokane references file

A friend named Rick emailed me last night.

"Hi, Paul:

"Here's one for your TV show/Spokane references file: Last night, was watching a rerun of Disney's 'Dog with a Blog' with our new pup, Nina (it's her favorite). Stan, the titular talking/blogging canine, was conflicted when his original owner, a scientist supposedly from Spokane named Ian, showed up and tried to lure him back home. 'You'll love Spokane,' Ian said. 'There are rivers and streams, a beautiful view of Puget Sound and fabulous regional theater.'

"I immediately assumed it was another example of the standard geographical ignorance regarding our area, but then Stan's precocious caretaker, Avery, piped up: 'Wait -- you can't see Puget Sound from Spokane, it's on the other side of the state with a mountain range in between. And the regional theater is marginal, at best.'

"At which point Ian confessed it was a phony story and he was actually trying to steal Stan to conduct sinister experiments re: the whole vocal ability thing."
