The Slice

There goes the neighborhood

A retirement and a job transfer had left vacant the two desks nearest mine in the newsroom.

Until now.

A veteran page designer just moved into one of them. He's a good guy. But on the wall behind him he has placed a big photo of EWU basketball fans rushing the court out in Cheney a few years ago after the Eagles punched their ticket to a first NCAA Tournament appearance.

I was at the game in question. I was sitting next to the aforementioned page designer, in fact.

You see, the team EWU defeated that night, the team that WOULD have gone to the NCAAs if it had won, was the squad representing my alma mater, Northern Arizona.

I sure hope nothing happens to that picture early one morning when I am the only one in the newsroom.
