The Slice

Paul’s People, No. 90

Our tax return was ready.

This is my accountant, Jeri Self-Merritt. She is a pleasure to deal with.

I once referred to her daughter in my column, but I didn't know it at the time. Here's that item, from Nov. 18, 2010.

Just wondering: What's your opinion of that "happy endings" Churchill's Steakhouse commercial where the young woman rebuffs two suitors who have taken her somewhere else but then pounces on the poindexter who took her to Churchill's?

Well, it turned out the actress portraying the randy young woman in that commercial was Jeri's daughter. That could have been awkward. I mean, after all, I had drawn attention to the fact she had played someone with a somewhat morally casual attitude. I hadn't quite called it a steak-for-sex scenario. Still, inferences could be drawn.

But next time I saw Jeri, she told me that was her daughter and she laughed. And as you can see, she has a great smile.
