The Slice

A round for the house, 2

This is from Janet Culbertson.

"After a long and dusty drive, my friend and I headed to the local bar for a cold one. This was in Lae, Papua New Guinea and they have certain rules.

"The bartender started ringing a large ship type bell and I asked Patrick why. He told me that because I was wearing a hat, I was obliged to buy a round for the house. The hat quickly came off and Patrick explained that I was a Yank, an ignorant one at that. I was released from my obligation but there were a lot of sad faces in the bar."
