Got a note with an attached photo from Steve Sather.

"Paul,

"I've been meaning to send you this.

"Attached is the only known photo of the 1972 Maiden Lane Marmots (I'm first row, second from the right). We were an off-campus team in the WSU intramural softball league. The players lived in Rainey Park and on Irving Street. We were terrible! We lost with scores like 27-4 and 32-3. One team let us bat twice in a row. What we lacked in ability we made up for with enthusiasm. I'll bet we had more fun than any other team. And our opponents had fun too!

"There were no coed teams back then so our women friends couldn't play, but they were Marmots. They lived on Maiden Lane so we named the team after them (sounded better than Rainey Park Rats or Irving Imps). Not only did we have more fans than other teams, two of them were WSU cheerleaders.

"Most of us have stayed in contact. Once a Marmot, always a Marmot."

In a follow-up, Steve noted that the pre-game and post-game celebrations were memorable. Remember, it was 1972.
