The Slice

He threatened the life of an S-R reporter

Friday's column leads off with the recollections of a local woman who was almost a juror in the Spokane murder trial more than 20 years ago of a particularly nasty piece of work named Damon Chapple.

It's actually an autograph story. No, not the convict's.

Chapple had earlier told then S-R reporter Jim DeFede that he was going to track him down and kill him.

"I hear that a lot," said DeFede.

No, DeFede didn't really say that. But he might have.
