The Slice

Seven things that can happen when reading Dr. Seuss to third graders

1. You recall a time when your monotone reading-aloud style put your wife to sleep.

2. You find yourself toying with the idea of trying to sound like Snagglepuss. (Yes, I know he's not a Seuss character.)

3. You mispronounce "Sneetches" in an unfortunate way.

4. You realize that it all might have gone better if you had consumed a few beers first.

5. You interrupt your reading to ask the kids if they know where the story is headed. (They do.)

6. You feel this encouraging jolt of confidence about the future when the kids are nice to you.

7. You go home and dream of Sylvester McMonkey McBean.
