The Slice

An underrated reason for keeping the landline

OK, maybe it's not a great reason.

But if you have the "How may we bill you?" bundle-provider package, you probably have that setup where incoming phone calls are displayed on your TV screen.

You know, the name and number of the caller.

This allows you to remain comfortably ensconced in your recliner while scoffing at the idea that you would even consider answering what is obviously a telemarketing call or political pitch.

And if you get really good at succinctly expressing your reaction, other members of your family in different rooms don't even have to ask "Who was that calling?"

They'll know from your disdainful snort that it was nothing to bother about.
