The Slice

Paul’s People, No. 89

Not surprisingly, O'Doherty's does good business on March 17.
Not surprisingly, O'Doherty's does good business on March 17.

This wonderful lady is Pat O'Doherty.

Yes, she is the mother of the brothers who run the downtown pub.

Pat has been in The Slice half a dozen times. She has written to me about mean cats in the family, remembering the aroma of her mother's bread baking and several other themes.

I couldn't imagine a better person with whom to take a picture on St. Patrick's Day.

Today was the first time we had met in person. And though I asked one of her sons to point her out to me, I got confused about the directions and initially ended up at the wrong table. (Those people understandably seemed a bit confused about what I was up to, but they were friendly. One woman was ready to do the selfie with me. The noise/music/energy level in O'Doherty's added to the communication problem.)

But Pat and I eventually connected. And she could not have been more gracious.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Pat.
