The Slice

Rethinking “Jerry Maguire” 20 years later

I know opinions vary about Tom Cruise and, for that matter, Cameron Crowe.

But there's a lot to like in "Jerry Maquire."

At least I think so

Still, I couldn't even consider rewatching it if I didn't have the capability to fast-forward through the scene where Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) regains consciousness in the end zone and then dances around for about six hours. (Where were concussion protocols when we needed them?)

The "You complete me" living room scene? I like it fine. "You had me at 'Hello'" wasn't a cliché in 1996.

Not crazy about Glenn Frey as the Arizona Cardinals GM. But he wasn't really an actor.

Jay Mohr? He's good at oozing cartoonish insincerity in every one of his scenes. And the kid who played the kid  had a spark.

Feel free to disagree.
