Five reasons I wish the S-R still published birth announcements

1. Provides an ongoing reality check on society for older readers.

2. The names are public record. And part of me resents that at least one hospital put us in a no-win situation by advancing a "Babies might be kidnapped!" argument. Opinions vary on whether that was the real issue. 

3. Some baby names are beautiful.

4. Some baby names are surprising.

5. It was always fun to imagine someday having a doctor named Duhkotah.
