A note about the Saturday Today cover
The cover of today's features section shows children holding fish they caught.
I'm hoping most of our readers will enjoy the photos. But I know a few will not.
I do not think being uneasy about photographs of dead or dying animals is a joke. I get it.
But fishing remains a popular, thoroughly mainstream activity. I elected not to note the misgivings of some on that page because I felt it would be inappropriate to rain on the kids' parade, as it were.
Still, I know a few readers will look at the Saturday paper and wonder if anyone at the S-R even thought about how presenting those images would strike some people.
The answer is yes.
I believe asking for photos of children with fish they caught was a good idea. I believe the page offers a look at how we live here.
But I respect your right to disagree.
