The Slice

The Wednesday Slice question

Why do you put up outdoor holiday lights?

A) So when, many years from now, the three little boys across the street think about their childhood Christmases, they will remember looking out their front window and seeing our lights beckoning them to a wonder-filled, happy season.

B) It's my way of saying "I'll give you something to cry about" to whatever tender soul at Avista sends out those snippy household energy use audits comparing us and our apparently cave dwelling neighbors.

C) Because my dad did back in the day.

D) It seems hopeful.

E) I like seeing them when I come home in the dark.

F) Because no one in my neighborhood is telling me I have to do it.

G) It wouldn't feel like Christmas without pumping the wattage out of our cottage.

H) The kids like to go stand outside and look at them.

I) If Santa gets hammered on Christmas Eve, I want him to still be able to find our house.

J) I like occasionally exclaiming "Lights and Display Contest!" just like Charlie Brown did.

K) I'm just trying to feel something, and this year has made it a challenge.

L) Other.
