Why is it OK to steal bicycles in Spokane?

Of course, obviously, it's not OK. But it is so staggeringly commonplace here, it makes you wonder.


Here are my Top 5 theories. See if any sound right to you.

5) When Spokane parents teach their children that stealing is wrong. they often add, "Except for bicycles."

4) A lot of people here are alarmingly willing to buy used bikes from sketchy characters.

3) A dismaying number of people in Spokane lack a moral compass.

2) It's easy.

1) Police mindset might be summarized as, "They're bicyclists, for God's sake -- they deserve it."
