We gotcher debates, right here

The vice presidential candidates won't debate in Spokane, but candidates for governor and Eastern Washington's 5th Congressional District will. And voters will get a chance to ask questions.

Gov. Chris Gregoire, a Democrat, and GOP challenger Dino Rossi, and Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and her Democratic opponent Mark Mays have agreed to participate in televised debates sponsored by The Spokesman-Review and KSPS-TV.

The gubernatorial debate will be broadcast Oct. 9 and the congressional debate Oct. 16, both at 7 p.m. on Channel 7. Both will be covered the day they are taped by The Spokesman-Review; audio and video will be available on The Spokesman-Review's Web site. The debates will be broadcast on KJRB 790 AM.

Some questions in each debate will come from area voters. Questions for either set of candidates can be sent to Debate questions, c/o Newsroom, The Spokesman-Review, Box 2160, Spokane WA 99210. They can be e-mailed to Spin Control 2.0. Include your name, address and a daytime phone number; debate organizers may contact you for further information.
