3rd Special Session: Day 172 in the never-ending session?

UPDATE: OLYMPIA -- Day 9 of the third special session was "pro forma" as far as official action on the floor.

The House convened and adjourned in about two minutes this morning and the Senate did the same at noon. Senate Majority Floor Leader Joe Fain signaled there's no agreement yet on how to bring the session to a close by scheduling the next such get together for Wednesday. That's the earliest senators would be asked to report back, because they'll get 48 hours notice to have time to return to the Capitol.

"We do still have work ahead," Fain said.

Democrats will have a press conference this afternoon to discuss the issue that led up to their vote against a bill to suspend parts of Initiative 1351 necessary to make the budget balance.

Senate Minority Leader Sharon Nelson explained it in an op-ed in the Tacoma News Tribune over the weekend, after a TNT editorial bashed Senate Democrats for the maneuver.

The Legislature has several hours of work left to finish off votes on bills necessary to make the 2015-17 operating budget, the capital budget and the new transportation package final.

Correction: Early versions of this post had the number of days the Legislature has been in session wrong.
