Spokane Valley

Applicants for city manager position considered next week.

(This post has been updated) The Spokane Valley City Council meets in executive session Tuesday to evaluate the qualifications of several applicants for public employment. The only position the city council can hire and fire for is that of City Manager.

There are very few restrictions on who the council may appoint as city manager, and it's an appointment the council controls without any input from city staff.

City Attorney Cary Driskell said there are several applicants for the open position and that this is just the first meeting in a longer hiring process.

Tuesday's executive session begins at 4 p.m. and is not open to the public. The press release from Spokane Valley said that no action is anticipated in the meeting.

The regular city council meeting follows at 6 p.m.
