Chiefs’ goalie honored

The Western Hockey League announced today that Spokane Chiefs goalie James Reid is the Husky WHL Player of the Month for November.

The 19 year-old goaltender went unbeaten in regulation time through the month, posting 10 wins and one over-time loss, which included an eight game win streak and three shut-outs. Reid recorded a  1.090 goals-against average and a 0.964 save percentage, allowing just 12 goals on 335 shots in 662 minutes played, averaging just over 30 shots a game.

Reid's play has helped the Chiefs post a 10-2-1-0 record through the month of November and his efforts also earned him a Three Star selection in five of his 11 games played, with four being 1st Stars.  He currently leads all WHL goaltenders with a 2.03 goals-against average and a 0.929 save percentage. Reid is also second in the wins with a 14-4-2-0 record.  The last WHL goaltender to be named Player of the Month was Matt Keetley back in January 2006.

The Chiefs are home against Seattle on Friday.

Reid, originally from Calgary, Alberta, is in his second full season with the Spokane Chiefs, spending last year playing behind one of the WHL’s best in Dustin Tokarski.  He was drafted by the Everett Silvertips in the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft and signed as a free agent with the Spokane Chiefs in April 2007.
