Akey talks about contract extension

Robb Akey just wrapped up a teleconference with reporters about the Humanitarian Bowl and said he and athletic director Rob Spear have talked about a contract extension -- as recently as this morning. Akey was out last week recruiting and is gone again, so he said the two need to find time to get an agreement worked out. "I'm hoping by next weekend that we'll have something hammered out," Akey said.

Asked if he and Spear were on the same page, Akey said, "I think we’re working toward the same goal." The coach is finishing the third year of a five-year deal that pays him $258,000 per year.

Also, WAC awards were released this morning and guard Mike Iupati and safety Shiloh Keo were first-team selections.
