Dragovic sinks WSU in first half

COUGARS

Nikola Dragovic. A 29 percent 3-point shooter coming in. And yet, more long-range shots taken than any Bruin. There must be a reason, right? There is, and he showed it in the first half, hitting 6 of 7 bombs – many off pick-and-pops with Darren Collison – to lead UCLA to what-looks-to-be-an-insurmountable 36-23 lead at halftime. The Cougars' 4s were hot as well, with Caleb Forrest and DeAngelo Casto combining for 10 points, but they are shooting 2-pointers. It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight. If you look at the halftime stats, you see UCLA at 7 of 10 from beyond the arc, WSU 1 of 7. Which brings up a point. Dragovic is the flash, but the key to this game right now is the defensive play of the UCLA guards. The Cougar starting three outisde guys: Rochestie, Thompson and Capers, have two points combined. ... The Cougars did continue their consecutive free-throw streak, extending it to 35, but only shot four in the first half. ... That's it for now. We'll be back after the game.
