A pick-em Thursday at WSU, around Pac-10

COUGARS

Kind of a quiet Thursday in Pullman and around the Pac-10. Still, there are two decently big games this week, the one in Seattle and Oregon State playing at USC. We made our picks. What are yours? Read on.
••••••••••

• Washington State: We had about the only WSU story out there today, but it's more like two stories rolled into one. There's James Montgomery talking about his leg injury and there's Brandon Jones talking about leaving Cal. A Doublemint feature. ... By the way, did you see the proposal to revive their basketball series that Washington sent Gonzaga?

• Around the Pac-10: ESPN.com's Ted Miller has his picks and what to watch for the weekend. ... Former UCLA coach Terry Donahue, now working for Buster Sport, thinks the conference is coming down to USC vs. Oregon next week. ... Throwing our net a little farther afield than just the Pac-10, we offer this look at college football midway through the season. Of course, it comes from a West Coast writer. ...Washington: The Huskies will have to face a different Oregon team than the one that started the season so slowly. ... Oregon State: In case you don't remember, then-freshman Jaquizz Rodgers ran all over USC last season. ... Oregon: The Ducks' defense will be trying to zero in on Jake Locker. ... Cal: Remember last year's Oklahoma State game and Dez Bryant jumping over the Cougars for catches? Cal has its version of Bryant. ... Stanford: The Cardinal are out of the picture today. ... USC: There's a really big game for the Trojans this weekend, and it's Friday night. ...UCLA: Coach Rick Neuheisel would love to get Kai Forbath a few more PAT opportunities, instead of all his field goals. ... Arizona State: The Sun Devils' athletic director, Lisa Love, defends a ticket-price hike – and her football coach. ... Arizona: Sometimes all you need to do to play winning defense is get one late stop. The Wildcats proved that last week.

• That's it for this morning. We'll be back after practice today. Until then …
