Eagles brace for semifinal showdown

Defending national champion Villanova and No. 1-ranked Eastern Washington University clash tonight at Roos Field in the semifinals of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

Kickoff is set for 5, and the matchup promises to be entertaining.  You can read the game advance tha appeared in Friday morning's S-R here, and you take a look on the feature story I did on Villanova's do-everything senior wide receiver Matt Szczur here. I've also included some addition links to related stories below.

For starters, here's the link to John Blanchette's column on the paltry attendance at EWU first two home playoffs games. You can read the game note put out by Eastern's sports information department here, and you see what Villanova's sports info folks posted about tonight's game here.

The Olympian ran this story on EWU's senior all-American linebacker J.C. Sherritt, and EWU sports info department posted this Q&A with Eagles wide receiver Brandon Kaufman.
