A nice mix of WSU, Pac-10 tunes

An eclectic group of items from around the Pac-10. Nothing too important, but a lot of interesting reads. Today is basketball media day at WSU, plus Pac-10 coaches get on the phone with the media. Tomorrow is, of course, football's Christmas Day, or as it is officially known, letter-of-intent day. Read on.

• Washington State: We had our short story (first item) about Mike Kramer's hire at WSU. Not as big a deal, it seems to me, as some are making it out to be. And, in the long run, Kramer will probably help the rest of the staff do their job better. ... Jim Moore has some thoughts on the Cougars and the Huskies. ... And, if you have some time, it might be worth listening to Mychal Thompson talk about Klay in this podcast (check descriptions for the right hour) from Kevin Calabro's Seattle-based radio show.

• Around the Pac-10: Dennis Erickson calls commitments akin to engagements: They're public but it doesn't mean both sides are going to walk down the aisle. As we get closer to signing day, more kids changed schools – some a few times. This column seems to nail the process pretty well. ... Speaking of recruiting, South Carolina got a commitment from a junior college defensive lineman that was on WSU's radar (near the end of the story). ... Finally, some reflections about Pac-10 basketball at the halfway point.

• That's all for now. We'll be back this evening with some thoughts from coach Ken Bone's press conference and practice. Until then ...
