Johnson, Cowen best in west

The long-standing Best of the West rankings of Western Division players in the Western Hockey League is out and the Spokane Chiefs fared quite well.

Everett didn't do too bad, either, which is a good primer for Monday's afternoon game at the Arena between the Silvertips and the Chiefs. Puck drops at 3 p.m.

Fans can react to Everett getting the top vote for best fans (with Spokane fourth behind Vancouver and Tri-Cities).

Noteable Chiefs:

Jared Cowen, best stay-at-home defenseman;

Tyler Johnson, best faceoff man (repeat); top defensive forward (repeat), fourth for best skater

Kyle Beach, most irritating player; second for most accurate shot

Ryan Letts, second for toughest player

Jared Spurgeon, third for best over-age player, which is the one I would quibble with since the D-man is averaging a point-per-game for the team that has allowed the fewest goals, the top two picks are offensive players.

James Reid, third for best goaltender
