WSU rallies, but falls 59-52 to UW

COUGARS

After having trailed all of the first half, WSU was a different team in the second half, rallying to take a three-point lead (44-41 with 7:47 left). But Washington had too much down the stretch and it was able to regain the lead, quiet the loud Beasley crowd and take the victory. ... Klay Thompson had missed 24 consecutive shots from the floor until he hit a 23-footer in transition at the 13:06 mark. But that wasn't why it was such a big deal. It brought the Cougars all the way back from a 16-point first-half deficit and tied the game at 39. ... There was a stretch midway through the second half when the Cougars, who had taken their first lead at 41-40, went four possessions without scoring. It turned out to be a pretty big stretch. ... During that stretch, Marcus Capers had to stop guard Isaiah Thomas and switch to Quincy Pondexter. Pondexter didn't score, but Thomas, who was struggling against the longer Capers, got a great look and hit a game-tying 3-pointer. From there, he took over for a while scoring 13 of UW's last 18 points. ... We'll be back in about 90 minutes with our story.
