Shock third, J-ville first in latest rankings
Spokane moved up one spot to No. 3 and Jacksonville took over the top spot by itself in the latest AFL coaches poll. The teams collide on Saturday at the Arena.
Spokane (5-2) was fourth a week ago, but climbed up on the strength of a 77-28 rout of Utah. Jacksonville shared No. 1 with Milwaukee, but the Sharks edged Cleveland and the Iron lost to Orlando.
Jacksonville has 138 points in the poll, Milwaukee 107 and Spokane 102. The Sharks earned 12 first-place votes, Milwaukee one and Spokane two.
Of Spokane's five wins, four (two vs. Utah, one vs. Bossier/Shreveport, one vs. Oklahoma City) have come against teams ranked among the bottom four in the poll. Jacksonville's wins are against No. 4 Tulsa, No. 8 Cleveland, No. 9 Tampa Bay, No. 11 Orlando and tied for No. 13 Oklahoma City and Dallas. The Sharks' loss was vs. No. 6 Alabama.
