SportsLink

Tuesdays with WSU one more time

COUGARS

I got up this morning and there was hot, fresh coffee waiting for me. See, last night I deciphered the instructions and programmed the new coffee maker to start brewing before I got out of bed. And it worked. We have a new motto here at SportsLink, WSU division: Celebrating life's little victories one day at a time. For more on Washington State, read on.

• Washington State: A light – or as marketers like to spell it, lite – day today what with our first look at the California game and our notes from last night's practice, which includes a couple links to the Kevin Riley left-knee injury news. And that's about it. By the way, as I mentioned in the notes, WSU went in full pads – an unusual situation for a Monday – but my 54-year-old brain forgot to ask coach Paul Wulff about it. • Around the Pac-10: We always let ESPN.com's Ted Miller pass along the Pac-10 players of the week news (and will until a WSU player wins it, then it becomes a local story). Miller also has his weekly rewind and an update on the play of the Pac-10's quarterbacks. ... The Register-Guard's Bob Clark takes a look around the conference. ... Washington: Jake Locker joins Riley as one of those quarterbacks on the sidelines, though, unlike Riley, his broken rib shouldn't put him out the rest of the season. ... Oregon State: Nothing here. ... Oregon: We will put this in the rich-get-richer file, but when teams have a lot of depth, as Oregon does, there is less chance for injury. ... Cal: Linked the stories last night. ... Stanford: This story looks at all the Bay Area teams. ... USC: The Trojans wonder which Arizona State team will show up Saturday. ... UCLA: Despite the down season, Rick Neuheisel is still a great salesman. ... And this story shows he has a soft side. ... Arizona State: Nothing here. ... Arizona: The final stretch is going to test the Cats in a lot of ways.

• That's all for this morning. We'll be back after this afternoon. Until then ...
