A double-duty WSU post

COUGARS

OK, so we're out of the bubble and into Beasley, trying to get ready to cover tonight's basketball game with Sacramento State. My guess is the crowd will be somewhere around 125 non-students, considering the condition of the roads, but Whitman County folks are a hardy lot, so it might be more. We have some basketball thoughts and football news on the link so read on.
••••••••••

• There's a report somewhere on the Internet from ESPN's Joe Schad saying it is very likely Paul Wulff will be fired after the Apple Cup, but for the life of me I can't find the original report. I did find a post on an Insider spot on ESPN's site, but it didn't have a link to the original report. They also cited this interview with Mike Bellotti, but nowhere there do I draw an inference that Wulff is out. There may be more smoke, but the only fire that matters is the one in Bill Moos' office. Unlike other athletic directors, Moos doesn't hold counsel with many people, so there are fewer chances for leaks. Thank goodness there are only a few days left until the Apple Cup and all this stuff can be sorted out. ... Paul Wulff held his usual Tuesday press conference today and we have it for you below after the basketball notes. ... No DeAngelo Casto and Reggie Moore tonight, but it shouldn't matter against Sacramento State, a middle-of-the-road Big Sky team. The more important aspect of the injuries is the next week or so, which will be a question I will have for Ken Bone after the game. We'll pass along his answer. ... Another important question is the status of tonight's officials. They were driving down from Spokane, and the roads aren't in the best condition, so we'll see if they show up. I brought my whistle just in case. I once umpired a high school baseball game when the blues didn't show, so I guess I can fill in here. ... With the game getting closer, that's all for now.

• Here's part of Wulff's press conference ...

• That's it for now. We'll be back on Twitter (vinceg55) so catch us there during the game. We also will have a halftime post here for comment if you want. Until then ...
