Leach meets the Pullman faithful

COUGARS

Just a quick note now that I am where I can write following the Mike Leach introductory meet-and-greet. Actually, the last part of it was a press conference – after the cheering stopped. Read on.

• We're going to get into what Leach had to say in more depth in our stories, but I can pass along something I learned. This wasn't Leach's preferred stop the last month or so. It's been his preferred stop for the last little while. He was intrigued by the Pac-12 in general but more than that, he was intrigued by Washington State's potential. He didn't come out and say that, of course, but he alluded to it a lotwhile answering questions. His football chief of staff, the only guy who is officially on board, David Emerick, talked with me for a while about Leach and that was something he shared. So when athletic director Bill Moos said Leach was the only guy he wanted and Leach wanted WSU, it wasn't hyperbole. ... Leach will meet with the players and the coaching staff this afternoon – he made it pretty clear he has his own guys that he's worked with over the years and that's who he wants on this staff – then jet over to Seattle later for a press conference there. He'll then get on a plane tomorrow for Key West to get his house in order and expects to back this weekend, hopefully with a couple assistants in tow.

• That's it for now. We'll be back in a couple hours with our stories. Until then ...
