WSU holds off Oregon State, 81-76

COUGARS • UPDATED: 8:55 P.M.

If you didn't know, today is my final day with the S-R (that's for you John). Read on.

• Nothing better than getting crud from your peers. Anyhow, we have our game story for you, or will soon (UPDATE: And here it is). The Cougars were a markedly different team today in their 81-76 win over Oregon State. It was mainly on the defensive end, where they played zone all but one possession – a high pick-and-roll for a layup – in about the first 30 to 35 minutes. But you can't zone when the other team is looking to get back into the game with 3-pointers and, though at times WSU did attack the Beaver shooters, Oregon State – namely Ahmad Starks – made enough shots down the stretch to make it interesting. But the one the Beavers needed – a wide-open 21-footer from Jared Cunningham – didn't go with 16 seconds left. ... And the offensive end was much more efficient. Maybe it's because Brock Motum (36), Marcus Capers (32), Reggie Moore (35) and DaVonté Lacy (31) all played more than 30 minutes. Only Mike Ladd (13) and D.J. Shelton (12) played more than 10 minutes off the bench. The Cougars tightened the rotation and it showed on the offensive end.

• That's it for tonight. I will be back in the morning with links and thoughts. After all, I am now the S-R's internet guy. I think this interweb might just be around for a while.Until then ...
