Something going on today at WSU?

COUGARS

It's hard to believe that the first day of the football letter of intent signing period, Signing Day if you will, has snuck up on us. Some things just seem to slip through the cracks. Wish it would get a little more coverage so we wouldn't be surprised like this. For more on this, and basketball, read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: So what's up with the Cougars' recruiting? We had a pretty long story Sunday if you missed it, but thanks to the permanence of commitments, one of the bigger names we covered, Brandon Tuliaupupu, is going elsewhere. But the letters will start coming in today, so instead of speculating about which players may be attending what school, we'll know. ... The WSU sports information department has this site all ready to go and other Cougar-centric sites, like CougCenter, Cougfan and the WSU Football Blog, will cover it as well. We'll pass along names as we hear them, but we're going to focus on reaction and thoughts about those players from the guys who will be coaching them, Paul Wulff and his assistants. ... One quick note. There was some consternation among WSU fans last night when the Sacramento Bee reported Devontae Booker-Butler, a Grant High running back who signed with Cougars last year, would sign a letter of intent with Fresno State. In the paper's story today, his name is omitted. Why? Probably because Booker-Butler can't sign a letter of intent anywhere today. One per customer as they say. He can attend Fresno State if he wants, he can even sign a non-binding agreement saying he will accept the Bulldogs' money, but he's basically a free agent. He can attend any school he can get into in the fall. That may not be WSU, but he's not signing a letter today. ... One last recruiting piece, courtesy of ESPN.com's Ted Miller. He looked at the All-Pac-10 team from this year and how each player was rated coming out of high school. ... CougCenter's Jeff Nusser has another look at WSU basketball's offense. ... The post-UW-game court storming still seems to be stuck in the craw of some. ... John Hunt of the Oregonian has this short piece on coach Ken Bone's comments yesterday, which you can go over in their entirety here. ... The Ducks' Malcolm Armstead is trying to change his life and his basketball game. He has been playing much better recently.

• Around the Pac-10: The conference begins the second half tonight when UCLA hosts USC. There are a lot of questions going into the second half, including who is going to win this thing. ... The Times' Bud Withers looks at the halfway point and Percy Allen examines the Huskies. ... Those Huskies play in Corvallis on Thursday and the Beavers know what awaits them. ... Tonight's game in Pauley is another battle of the bigs. ... The Bruins have missed out on a lot of local players recently and there might be a reason why. ... Derrick Williams isn't bothered by all the hype.

• That's all for now. We'll be back throughout the day with items, so check back when you can. Until then ...
