Key games down the stretch

As you might expect with just a couple of weeks left in the regular season, there are some big women's basketball games this weekend. Read on.

Gonzaga can clinch a tie for its seventh straight WCC title tonight at Santa Clara and coach Jen Mountain, who was on the GU bench when the streak started and has the Broncos pointed in the right direction. They can win it out-right at San Francisco on Saturday. The Zags have won four straight out-right titles. The goal now is to make it back-to-back perfect league season. The Bulldogs remain fourth in the Mid-Major poll.

Washington State, having its most success in more than a decade, hope to continue that trend with home games against Arizona tonight and Arizona State - in the Pink Zone game - on Saturday. The Cougars have six Pac-10 wins for the first time since 1998. They won eight in 1996 and have never won more than nine.

Eastern Washington has struggled in defense of its first Big Sky title but the Eagles have a key game tonight at home - the Pink Zone game - against Northern Arizona and Ferris grad Jenna Galloway in their quest to qualify for the league tournament and turn things around. With Weber State at Cheney on Saturday, EWU faces two critical games because the last two weekends are against league-leading Montana State and red-hot Montana.

Idaho is battling for WAC tournament seeding against Nevada tonight - again, the Pink Zone game. You can read an inspiring story about Vandal trainer Drew Ruckelshaus beating luekemia. Saturday against Utah State is Senior Day for five Vandals.
