Zags pull away from Wake Forest

Gonzaga earned its sixth straight men’s basketball victory, using a strong second half to pull away from Wake Forest 73-63 on Sunday at Joel Coliseum.

Steven Gray, in his best performance since returning from back spasms three games ago, led Gonzaga with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Rob Sacre (13), Mathis Keita (12) and Elias Harris (13) also reached double figures. Demetri Goodson added eight points and four assists.

The Bulldogs outscored the Demon Deacons 37-28 in the second half. GU (10-5) led by 13 but the Demon Deacons rallied when Gray picked up his fourth foul with 6:35 left. Wake Forest quickly pulled within 62-58, but GU responded with a 9-1 run (Sacre five points, Gray two and Harris two) to ice the victory.

Wake Forest's Travis McKie scored just one point in the second half and finished with 16 points.
