WSU vs. OSU in about an hour

COUGARS

We have some news in our pregame post – I know, a shock, huh? – so we won't waste any time. We already have wasted enough catching up with some old sports writing friends. Read on.

••••••••••

• We told you earlier this week, Faisal Aden tweaked his leg at practice. He didn't go Wednesday and is not on the floor yet, though he was riding the exercise bike earlier. (Update: he's out here shooting now and looks fine. He's wearing a black leg warming thing on his right leg.) It's his right Achilles' tendon so we'll see how it affects him tonight. ... You may have already heard this, but Klay Thompson made the cut to 30 for the Wooden Award. It was announced today. ... A quick football note. As Jim Meehan had here, Kevin Lopina signed with the San Jose AFL team. No word how his health is. ... As for Reggie Moore's status, I haven't heard anything today that would leave me to believe it's changed. As far as I know right now, he'll be starting tonight. He's on the court for pregame warmups. Such distractions are rarely good for a team, but it can serve to bring them together against the enemy (and in a case like this the enemy usually is the media). ... One thing I heard before the game is OSU will do all it can to force Klay Thompson to go right off screens. The Beavers contention is he doesn't shoot as well going in that direction. I'll try to keep track. ... Daniel Deane is finally a senior. The 6-foot-8, wild-coiffed forward is one of the few players still in college basketball who played against WSU in its Sweet Sixteen year. Of course, it was at Utah. ... Expect the Cougars to play a lot of zone tonight. The Beavers have struggled from outside this year and the WSU staff feels this is the best way to handle them. There was an emphasis on keeping them off the glass and if you've seen Jared Cunningham's dunk, you know why. ... Oregon State's 1-3-1 didn't bother the Cougars much last year, so the Beavers played a lot of 2-3 matchup. WSU expects to see more of the latter tonight. ... The big news from the Pac-10, or 12 if you prefer, today was about next year's football championship game and the boatload of money Fox is paying to broadcast it. Though maybe the big story is Andrew Luck coming back to Stanford.

• That's it for now. As per usual, we'll be on Twitter (vinceg55) and here when we can. Until later ...
