A time out for morning post

COUGARS

At times, it's tough to get up in the morning. Not today. Rolled out of bed at 7 a.m. sharp and headed downstairs humming a Beatles' tune ("When I'm 64," which has special meaning in my family today). Opened up the computer ready to write and realized something. Was out of town yesterday. The clocks in the house are still on daylight savings time. Could have slept a bit longer. Damn. Read on.

• Washington State: Before we get going today, I wanted to clear something up (though I'm not sure anyone was wondering). I know I promised quotes yesterday morning, but after reading through what I didn't use Saturday night in the stories, there just wasn't enough difference to pass them along. So I bagged that ... Not a lot to pass along today. We have our follow concerning the defeat, which is what it is, and some notes from last night. ... By the way, please feel free to debate all you want the various merits of making a coaching change or staying the course. But why call each other names? What is this, a political debate? You would think WSU fans would be better than a bunch or red or blue state hacks.

• Around the Pac-12: The Times' Bud Withers begins the advance work for Saturday's Oregon at Stanford game. I would bet the house there will be more points scored than there were in the "game of the century" last weekend. And the game will be more entertaining. ... ESPN.com's Ted Miller has his conference power rankings, bowl projections and responds to yesterday's BCS rankings. ... More on the game from the Bay Area. ... The BCS is, once again, a mess. ... One basketball post just to whet your appetite. ... Washington: Though the Huskies are having an excellent season, they can't seem to get over the hump against ranked opponents. ... Oregon State: The Beavers prepare for another tough test in another tough season. ... Oregon: The Ducks defense stood up for itself Saturday and will have to again this week. ... California: Though the Bears won the game handily against WSU, they lost the injury battle big time. ... Stanford: Chris Owusu's concussion will probably keep him out of this week's game. ... Colorado: Nothing. ... Utah: Nothing. ... USC: Both teams in this matchup with Washington have to bounce back from something. ... UCLA: The Bruins are experimenting on defense and it's working. ... Arizona State: Looking back at the Sun Devils loss to UCLA isn't all that fun for ASU fans. ... Arizona: Nick Foles has the weight of Wildcat world on his shoulders.

• That's all for today. We'll be back tonight after WSU's practice. Happy birthday Linda. Until later ...
