Partly Cloudy Day 38° Partly Cloudy

It’s Monday morning and all that entails

Talk about frost on the pumpkin. Well, it is almost the ides of November, so I guess a little cold at night is to be expected. What might not have been expected is, with two games remaining in its football season, WSU still has a chance to play in a bowl game. And, yes, the basketball season gets underway tonight. Read on.

• Washington State: By the way, sorry about the run-on paragraph yesterday morning. My return key wasn't working (I lie, but it sounds like a legitimate excuse to me). ... The Cougars are here in Spokane, staying at the plush Davenport Hotel I believe. Pretty nice digs and where most of Gonzaga's opponents stay. When Tim Floyd was the basketball coach at USC, you know, before all the "problems," he refused to stay in the Palouse (maybe having coached at Idaho for a while caused that reaction). Anyhow, the Trojans would stay at the Davenport and bus down for the game. Might have explained how poorly they played in Pullman under Floyd. ... Jim Meehan did the S-R's advance on the game tonight, while Bud Withers has this one in the Times. ... On the football side of things, we had our follow on the Arizona State game, with John Blanchette chipping in with a Connor Halliday column. ... CougCenter has a couple of posts, one based on drive charts, the other on the numbers posted in the 37-27 win. ... Freelancer Howie Stalwick has this follow, while Jim Moore was playing the dad part in Dad's Weekend and filed this blog post.

• Around the Pac-12:'s Ted Miller updates the Pac-12 race (the South is just a mess) and ranks the teams this week. ... It's that time of the year. It's time to wonder how the BCS will screw everything up. ... Washington: The Huskies look to regroup against Oregon State, something the Cougars couldn't do. ... Oregon State: The Beavers seem to be living a Jackson Browne song. You know, "Running on Empty." ... Oregon: The Ducks' defense is now playing at the top of its game, which makes the Ducks one of the top teams in the nation. But there is little chance they can play in the national title game. Even though they played LSU just as tough as Alabama and did it on the road. ... California: The Bears are the underdogs in the Big Game again. ... Stanford: The Cardinal drop in the national polls. ... Colorado: For the first time this season following a Pac-12 game, the Buffs are happy. ... Utah: The Utes' offense hasn't turned the ball over since a loss at California almost a month ago. ... USC: The Trojans are next on Oregon's hit parade. ... UCLA: The Cougars' win helped the Bruins' spirits considerably. ... Arizona State: The Sun Devils can't figure out what goes wrong on the road. ...Arizona: In this lost season, there is still the rivalry game.

• That's it for this morning. We'll be back before and during the basketball game, though the during part will be on Twitter (vinceg55). Until then ...
