Snow night in Pullman

COUGARS

You know when snow is really fun? When you are sitting in your living room, cup of coffee on the table, a fire roaring, and nowhere to go. You can sit and watch it all day. You know when snow isn't fun? When you have to stand at football practice for two hours while it falls sideways due to the wind. That was the case this evening at football practice. Read on.

• It was really cold when practiced started but warmed up when the snow began to fall. But either way, it was pretty miserable as an observer. The players, they may have been having fun, as the energy level seemed pretty high throughout. But when practice was over, no one was asking for one more play today and they all made a bee-line to the locker room. Totally get that. ... It was feisty again today as the physical nature of practice got to a couple guys. But nothing major. ... Still a few important guys not suited up – Marquess Wilson (hip), Deone Bucannon (ankle), Daniel Simmons – but Wulff said afterward they all expected to practice Thursday and play the weekend. ... It doesn't look as if Lenard Williams (knee) or long snapper Zach Koepp (concussion) will be available. Adam Coerper has been running in Williams defensive end spot. ... The scout team had a pretty impressive quarterback today. Jeff Tuel, for the second consecutive day, took snaps with the group and passed the ball. He threw three interceptions, which Wulff said the defense probably asked for and he wasn't joking. Sometimes the defense has to work on making big plays too. I mentioned to Wulff that not too many starting quarterbacks at major colleges, cleared to throw but not for contact, would step in and help the scout team. He said that illustrates a point he's been trying to make, that they are trying to recruit selfless players, ones that will put team first and do whatever it takes to make the team better.

• That's it for tonight. As usual, we'll be back in the morning. Until then ...
