It’s travel day for WSU
There is a certain excitement about Fridays in football season. It's the day before game day, of course. But when Washington State is on the road, it's also travel day. And today we travel to a new Pac-12 city. Boulder, Colorado. Read on.
• Washington State: My only recollection of Boulder? Mork and Mindy. Yep, we get all our travel memories from old TV shows. ... As for our football knowledge, we picked that up the old fashioned way. Standing, watching, listening. We finish our week of wide receiver coverage with this feature on Colorado's Paul Richardson, who had a hard-to-fathom day against California a few weeks back. ... A look at Washington State from the Denver Post. ... Jared Karstetter is a semifinalist for a scholar-athlete award, one that boasts a pretty outstanding financial prize. ... Another preview of the Buffaloes. ... And my alma mater makes the world news again.
• Around the Pac-12: Not a lot from around the conference as a whole. ... Washington: The Huskies have made a habit of winning close games lately, though they haven't played one in the atmosphere they'll see Saturday. ... Oregon State: If it wasn't for bad luck, the Beavers wouldn't have, ah, you know the saying. ... Oregon: The Ducks football program has decided it doesn't need the local fans anymore. ... California: The Bears had a chance to upset Oregon last year, but kicked it away. ... Stanford: When the Cardinal need a touchdown, they look to their tight end. ... Colorado: In case you didn't know, Saturday's game is the Buffs first in the Pac-12. They expect their opponent – that would be Washington State – to throw the ball a ton. ... Utah: The Utes have a tradition of great running games. Now if the darn offense could start faster. ... USC: The crowds are down in the Coliseum, down to the Larry Smith days. ... UCLA: The Bruins want to be more balanced on offense. ... Arizona State: This story carries a headline I'm sure you never thought you would see. ... Arizona: The Wildcats want, and need, to protect Nick Foles.
• That's all for this morning. We're on our way to Colorado and will rejoin you when we get the chance. Until then ...
