EWU practice report, Day 8

Yes, this really is Day 8, since the conditioning and orientation sessions last Monday and Tuesday count toward the NCAA-mandated maximum of 29 practices. Actually, two-a-days count as two practices and there are five of them, so the Eagles have 25 practice days before Idaho. ... The Eagles had a great practice Monday morning, especially if your name is Kyle Padron or Demetrius Bronson.

Even in a full-team drill that was run-oriented, Padron hit some nice long passes, including a picture-perfect TD throw to Cory Mitchell. Bronson is the clear front-runner at RB, and got almost all the first-unit reps Monday morning. Coach Baldwin told me after practice that if the Idaho game were tomorrow, that Bronson would be the guy, but added that the game "isn't tomorrow."  ... The players were hard at it Monday morning, including the defensive line (here's my video shot this morning) A few players here held out of drills for precautionary reasons, including O-lineman Steven Forgette and defensive back Miles Weatheroy. ... The Sports Network just announced its preseason poll, which has Eastern 12th, behind MSU at fourth and Montana at 11th. Sam Houston State is ranked No .1.
