EWU and the Big Sky

Even though the Eagles ahve a bye this week, there's plenty to talk about. I was at practice Tuesday to catch up on things on and off the field, including progress on the new video scoreboard and the team's new matte-black helmets, which will be used later this season at a game to be determined (I have a pretty good idea which one.)  I tweeted an image of the helmet while I was at practice; follow me on Twitter at @srjimallen. While I was there, word filtered in about the half-game suspension  slapped on WSU safety Deone Bucannon after his hit on EWU receiver Greg Herd. Folks in Cheney thought that was a biteasy. Here's a discussion of the topic at Coug Center, along with a video of the play.

Elsewhere, here's a story by our Christian Caple on FBS coaches' attitudes toward scheduling FCS schools (Yeah, they can beat you). Elsewhere in the Big Sky, Weber State head coach Jody Sears assesses the Wildcats' 45-13 loss at BYU. Eastern's next opponent is Weber State, which plays McNeese State this week. ... Montana coach Mick Delaney says the Grizzlies have some wrinkles to iron out after their 35-27 loss at Appalachian State. From the Billings Gazette, a look at Griz running back Dan Moore, who had a big day at Appalachian State.
