EWU and Big Sky links

Big Sky Conference play begins this week, and as they like to say "Now the games really count." But if your team is chasing an at-large spot in the FBS playoffs, don't they all count? In the case of Eastern Washington, I think the win over Idaho wll count for something in case they don't win the conference. We're sure to revisit that topic in November, but for now, the Eagles told me at practice Tuesday that they are focused squarely on the Big Sky opener at Weber State.

Not a lot of Weber State coverage in the Utah media today, but here's a Deseret News story on the 0-3 Wildcats' loss to McNeese State. Meanwhile, here's a look at Montana's mastery of NAU, its next opponent. ... Third-ranked Montana State is ready to defend its conference co-championship. ... Cal Polylinebacker Johny Millard may play against rival Cal Davis despite a knee injury suffered last week. ... Bonus link: I interviewed EWU basketball coach Jim Hayford yesterday about his team's trip to Canada, and wrote this story.
