Chiefs on brink of elimination

The Spokane Chiefs played well at home Tuesday night, but not well enough to stop the Portland Winterhawks from taking a 3-0 advantage in their WHL conference semifinal. Portland won 3-1 -- the third goal was an empty-netter with 15 seconds left -- to force Spokane to win four consecutive games to advance in postseason. Read story See picture story

Nachbaur and Gal furthered explained how they approach a 0-3 deficit.

"You gotta take it a period at a time, a shift at a time, but it's tough to put this one behind you," Nachbaur said.

"It has to be just another game," Gal said. "We have to come and compete as hard as we can. Our life's on the line here.

"We just have to stick to our game, keep chipping away, and results will come."

Nachbaur is still looking for leadership from his top offensive players.

"Right from the first game of the series there are guys who have underperformed," he said. "You know what? We need those guys in order to win and they're not showing up."
