A few WSU notes to end the week

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN -- There isn't a lot to post this morning, but there's enough to throw a few sentences together. Keep reading.

...

Mike Leach held his end-of-spring teleconference yesterday, though it was mostly just re-hashing things he's already said at one time or another during the past few weeks. The most significant news might be that Leach said Mansel Simmons will be placed on medical scholarship for the rest of his time at WSU, meaning he'll have his school paid for until he graduates, if that's what he chooses to do. ... I also asked Leach to expand on an earlier statement about Austin Apodaca having one of the best springs he's seen from a freshman quarterback. Leach said: "Part of it is, he threw the ball real accurately, that’s one thing, and made good, quick decisions … He’s a good student of the game as far as football goes, and he’s just a real good student of the game and watches film relentlessly and all that. I think the most impressive thing that he did was he was really composed. If he has a bad play it doesn’t rattle him ... if he has a great play that doesn’t rattle him either. He's just really steady and that’s unusual." ... Not a lot on WSU in this week's college baseball notebook, but we'll link it here anyway.

Around the Pac-12 ... Washington's Desmond Trufant, brother of Marcus, was drafted 22nd overall in yesterday's first round of the NFL Draft. ... A pair of Oregon players were selected in the first round, one of them in the top five. ... The state of Utah had a good day yesterday, too, and Utes offensive lineman Star Lotulelei was a part of it. ... Speaking of going pro, Colorado's star basketball player still isn't sure if that's the path he will take this season. Either way, his decision won't make or break the Buffs, says coach Tad Boyle. ... It could be awhile before Oregon State names its starting quarterback. ... UCLA students will be able to take a free bus ride to Pasadena for the Bruins' spring game. ... A look at some Arizona State players awaiting NFL futures.
