Gabe Marks could redshirt

The Cougars consider today to be a Saturday – they're one week from playing a game, after all. Because there is no game today they had a contact practice, albeit a very short one.

Because practice was only about an hour, there isn't much of a report to pass along. There is some news, however, as coach Mike Leach acknowledged after practice that receiver Gabe Marks could potentially redshirt this season.

"Well we'll just look at it and see how it goes," Leach said. "It's a possibility but nothing's been decided on it."

Regular readers will know that Marks, who lead the team in receptions and receiving yards last season, missed spring practice and has been limited for most of the fall. Marks has been playing recently, but mostly on scout team.

A couple more practice notes after the jump.

-- Tyler Baker had the play of the day, making a catch at the edge of the end zone despite being blanketed by a defender, who fell on Baker and they both tumbled to the ground and out of bounds. We couldn't make out the defender from our perch and honestly, Baker may have landed out of bounds, it's tough to say, but we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

-- During the team period Halliday hit Morrow on a swing pass. The running back made a nice dip backwards to evade Buck linebacker Ivan McClennan, the ran in for the score from about 10 yards out.

-- Vince Mayle gained about 15 yards after making a really nice cut upfield to avoid Taylor Taliulu, who had a good angle to stop Mayle after about five yards or so.

-- Former running back Teondray Caldwell was looking for another big hit, this time on Dom Williams, but the receiver put a nice spin move on the safey who went flying past.

-- Daquawn Brown and Tracy Clark appear to be the starting cornerbacks with Marcellus Pippins and Charleston White running with the twos. Riley Sorenson seems to have established himself as the starting center, and Eduardo Middleton will probably start at right guard against Rutgers. I get the feeling you'll be seeing Kristoff Williams as the primary kickoff returner.
