Chiefs ready for new season with new look

The Spokane Chiefs must reshape many phases of their game, but they prepare to enter the 2014-15 Western Hockey League season with the will to compete. Read story

Spokane's goalies were efficient during the preseason, allowing two goals or less in four of the seven games.

"I think our goaltending’s been solid," coach Don Nachbaur said after the Chiefs' 2-1 overtime loss to Tri-City on Sept. 11 at Eastern Washington University. "I don’t think ... one guy’s emerged. I think they’ve all had great showings. It’s going to be a tough decision for our staff."

Spokane finished 2-2-3-0 during the exhibition season, but Nachbaur looked beyond the record.

"It’s evaluation time," he said. "We’re asking our kids to get better every day. I saw a marked improvement (Sept. 11) with a lot of our players from our last exhibition game against these guys. And that’s a process. We have to go through the process. We can’t look at winning and losing."
