Live WSU chat (transcription)

srchat: Alright, let's get started. Thanks for joining our live chat.

Aug 19 2015, 11:01 AM

Guest7939 (guest): How has Hameed looked? Will he challenge Taylor Taliulu for his starting spot?

Aug 19 2015, 11:02 AM

srchat: Hameed has yet to practice with the team, although he's been on the sidelines in street clothes. I'm sure the coaches want him to challenge for a starting spot, but the longer he's out the harder it will be for him to get up to speed.

Aug 19 2015, 11:02 AM

Guest1194 (guest): I've never been a fan of the fade pass when you are near the goal line. However, with 6'6 CJ Dimry, I would be OK with it if he was the target. Have you seen them practice that play, and do you think they'll use Dimry in those situations this year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:03 AM

srchat: They practice that route a lot during the WR vs. DB drill portion of practice, and Dimry has been very effective in that role. Graham Harrell hinted yesterday that, while Dimry may not be among the top 8 receivers, they do have some packages to take advantage of his size in the red zone.

Aug 19 2015, 11:04 AM

Wazzuer (guest): We haven't heard much about Pat Porter this fall. Does it look like he'll be in the rotation at corner this season?

Aug 19 2015, 11:05 AM

srchat: Porter didn't do a whole lot in spring practice or preseason camp to stand out after making a couple starts as a true freshman last year. As of now, I don't expect him to be in the two-deeps. He's the fifth or sixth corner, but that could obviously change if he strings together some good practices.

Aug 19 2015, 11:07 AM

Guest8808 (guest): How has the punting game looked?

Aug 19 2015, 11:07 AM

srchat: Not great. Erik Powell has a strong leg and has been able to get the job done, but there's a decent chance he'll be the placekicker this year. I think they'd like Zach Charme to win the job, but has not been consistent.

Aug 19 2015, 11:08 AM

Guest9280 (guest): What is the word on Chuck White?

Aug 19 2015, 11:08 AM

srchat: White was at practice yesterday in a jersey but no pads, the first time we saw him since he was involved in a hard tackle late last week. Read into that what you will.

Aug 19 2015, 11:09 AM

Guest1194 (guest): If the first game of the season was tomorrow, who'd be our punter, and should we be worried about that?

Aug 19 2015, 11:09 AM

srchat: Powell would likely be and a little bit.

Aug 19 2015, 11:09 AM

Guest9166 (guest): No Treshon yet? Is he in Pullman?

Aug 19 2015, 11:09 AM

srchat: I haven't seen him in Pullman.

Aug 19 2015, 11:09 AM

Guest5571 (guest): How have they been utilizing Nick Begg and does it look like they will use him a lot this year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:10 AM

srchat: I've only seen them use him a couple times. When they do, it's been a traditional tight end role, something we haven't seen before in the offense. He lines up right next to the offensive tackle and either stays in to block or runs a route.

Aug 19 2015, 11:10 AM

Guest6493 (guest): What's your take on the report that WSU has the most arrests of any college football team in the last 5 years?

Aug 19 2015, 11:11 AM

srchat: It's not really any new information. Three or four years ago, the Cougars had an absurdly high number of arrests. But they've gone almost a year without one so it certainly seems like whatever systematic issues caused the high number of arrests are behind them.

Aug 19 2015, 11:11 AM

Guest5555 (guest): So how are special teams progressing? Particularly the coverage units? Do they seem better than last year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:12 AM

srchat: It's really much too early to tell if they're going to be better or not, since they haven't done any live kickoffs. At this point they're basically just learning lane assignments or doing drills in which a couple gunners try to get past a couple blockers to get to the return man. Honestly, we probably won't know if they're better until Rutgers.

Aug 19 2015, 11:12 AM

Guest2761 (guest): What does David Bucannon need to improve on in order to get into the two deeps? Seems like he has good size and obviously his brother had a ton of success.

Aug 19 2015, 11:13 AM

srchat: Instincts and quickness, mostly. Bucannon just isn't around the play as much as the other safeties are. You're right he has good size and he can pack a punch when he does make a tackle, he's just not involved in as many as he needs to be.

Aug 19 2015, 11:14 AM

Wazzuer (guest): Kameron Powell was listed as a standout in the early practice reports but we haven't heard much since. As of now, does it look like he'll redshirt?

Aug 19 2015, 11:14 AM

srchat: Powell played well in camp but the emergence of Shalom Luani after a couple days kind of pushed Powell down the depth chart. I still wouldn't be surprised if he plays some this year to provide depth and special teams help.

Aug 19 2015, 11:15 AM

Guest4328 (guest): Based on your posts the D-line and LB's are looking good but DB's are a trouble spot. Overall how do think the Defense will be this compared to last?

Aug 19 2015, 11:16 AM

srchat: I think the defense will force more turnovers, certainly. I think it will be improved.

Aug 19 2015, 11:16 AM

Guest9166 (guest): What's the difference you see in how Grinch runs practices vs. Breske.

Aug 19 2015, 11:17 AM

srchat: Well, the schedule hasn't changed. But I do see Grinch as being more involved in the individual drill works and he's more active during the skeleton and team periods in terms of running around and making corrections.

Aug 19 2015, 11:17 AM

Guest9280 (guest): Assuming everyone is happy and healthy, what is our starting secondary looking like?

Aug 19 2015, 11:18 AM

srchat: In a happy, healthy, perfect world it would currently be CB: Charleston White N: Darius Lemora FS: Isaac Dotson SS: Taylor Taliulu CB: Marcellus Pippins

Aug 19 2015, 11:18 AM

Guest8808 (guest): Who are the two favorites to start at SS and FS? And if you want to throw in your own opinion, who would you like to see start at SS and FS?

Aug 19 2015, 11:19 AM

srchat: Right now it's Isaac Dotson and Taylor Taliulu. I think they're starting to lean toward having Dotson start or play frequently at nickel and having Luani start in his safety spot. I would like to how a lineup of Luani and Dotson at safety with Lemora at nickel looks, but Lemora hasn't been great the last couple practices.

Aug 19 2015, 11:19 AM

Guest2761 (guest): As you can see, fans are much more focused on special teams this year due to last years problems. Is the coaching staff putting any more of an emphasis on ST this year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:20 AM

srchat: Based on my memory it does seem like they are devoting a little more practice time to special teams. More coaches are involved during the special teams drills and there certainly seems to be a greater sense of urgency.

Aug 19 2015, 11:20 AM

Guest4728 (guest): Do you think Martin and/or Sweet have done enough so far to get into the 2-deep at their position?

Aug 19 2015, 11:20 AM

srchat: I think both have good chances of backing up their respective positions.

Aug 19 2015, 11:20 AM

Guest5555 (guest): How is Reggie Coates developing? Do you see him emerging as a breakout player next year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:21 AM

srchat: He's been very good in the pass rush, and also has this innate ability to get his hands up on passes to the flat while he's rushing the passer, which has led to a few pass breakups and an interception. I think he'll be one of those guys that doesn't necessarily play a ton of snaps, but is effective when he plays in passing situations and ends up with a high number of sacks.

Aug 19 2015, 11:21 AM

Guest5571 (guest): Have you seen Deion Singleton at practice?

Aug 19 2015, 11:21 AM

srchat: Yes.

Aug 19 2015, 11:22 AM

Guest9166 (guest): As of now, what would two deeps look like at LB?

Aug 19 2015, 11:24 AM

srchat: Peyton Pelluer and Jeremiah Allison are the starters inside with Kache Palacio at Rush. During Sunday's scrimmage, the second team linebackers were Frankie Luvu and Chandler Leniu inside and Ivan McLennan at Rush.

Aug 19 2015, 11:24 AM

Wazzuer (guest): You previously said Powell looked good kicking in practices last year but not games. Have you seen anything that makes you think he's up to take the challenge this year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:25 AM

srchat: Well, he's hitting from even further back. Eric Mele has also done more to create pressure on the kickers, saying that if a kicker misses he has to watch the whole team run, etc. So far, Powell has responded well to those challenges.

Aug 19 2015, 11:25 AM

Guest5350 (guest): I know this is difficult to quantify, but how different is the attitude of the offense led by Falk compared to Haliday? I always thought Haliday's emotions got the better of him and rubbed off negatively on the team. Falk seems to be pretty calm.

Aug 19 2015, 11:25 AM

Guest9166 (guest): Can you compare Falk's performance in camp to Conner's last year? Does it seem Falk is less prone to int's?

Aug 19 2015, 11:28 AM

srchat: I'll answer both of these by saying that Connor had the benefit of being the undisputed starter last season. While Falk is the presumed starter and takes the team reps with the first unit, because it is still technically a "competition" he doesn't get the inherent leadership boost that comes with being the clear-cut starting QB. Falk does a nice job of leading group, but Halliday was always clearly the guy in charge of the offense and by last season, his fifth year, he basically dominated the defense every practice.

Aug 19 2015, 11:28 AM

Guest5555 (guest): It was rumored that Grippi was in Lewiston this past week. Will the spokesman allow his appeal, and where do you see him starting?

Aug 19 2015, 11:29 AM

srchat: Grippi has lost too much weight, leading to a position switch. The former scribe is now a radio man. We've filed a run-off waiver on the grounds that he ran off about 50 pounds.

Aug 19 2015, 11:29 AM

Guest7380 (guest): How has Green looked so far at CB (if you've noticed)?

Aug 19 2015, 11:30 AM

srchat: He played safety yesterday (I only ever reported that he moved to defensive back and that the coaches hadn't settled on a position). He surprised me with his instincts on the couple plays he got and he did well during the WR vs. DB drill.

Aug 19 2015, 11:30 AM

Guest4728 (guest): Pelluer seems to do a lot of good things but isn't the most athletic/fast player. Do you think Leniu (or another MIK) enough of a speed upgrade to potentially pass Pelluer at some point this season?

Aug 19 2015, 11:30 AM

srchat: It could happen but I don't expect it to. Leniu would need to have a really good season in a backup role to pass Pelluer.

Aug 19 2015, 11:30 AM

SweetOldBill (guest): I heard talk of punter issues this year. Who's going to punt & whats the outlook? Or are we just going to go for it on every 4th down?

Aug 19 2015, 11:31 AM

srchat: Right now Erik Powell has looked better than Zach Charme. He's looked fine -- good enough for the team to do it's punt return drills, at least -- but I wouldn't expect punting to be a strength.

Aug 19 2015, 11:33 AM

Guest8808 (guest): Any new enhancements to Martin Stadium this year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:33 AM

srchat: I didn't notice any yesterday but I'll take a closer look today.

Aug 19 2015, 11:34 AM

Guest1320 (guest): where is kameron powell in the depth chart?

Aug 19 2015, 11:34 AM

srchat: He's a third team safety.

Aug 19 2015, 11:34 AM

Guest3301 (guest): How has hunter Dale looked?

Aug 19 2015, 11:34 AM

srchat: He's made a few nice plays. I wouldn't be shocked to see him play, but he's not in the two-deeps yet.

Aug 19 2015, 11:34 AM

Guest1320 (guest): how about broughton? talked up as helping at CB this year.

Aug 19 2015, 11:35 AM

srchat: I have yet to see Broughton, which isn't a great sign for him contributing this year, obviously. If he's not here by Tuesday (Monday is the first day of classes but no practice) then I wouldn't expect to see him play this year.

Aug 19 2015, 11:35 AM

Guest5350 (guest): RE: kicking. What happened to the Matt Abramo? Wasn't he a 3-star kicker or something? I thought he'd be the obvious solution this year.

Aug 19 2015, 11:35 AM

srchat: The Cougars gave him some reps in practice and he did OK, but he was also limited intermittently throughout camp.

Aug 19 2015, 11:35 AM

Guest5571 (guest): What are your thoughts on the offensive line's recent performance?

Aug 19 2015, 11:36 AM

srchat: Run blocking was their focus this offseason and they've certainly improved in that regard. That said, the pass blocking has been wanting the last few practices.

Aug 19 2015, 11:36 AM

Guest1320 (guest): Haven't heard much about Jeremiah Mitchell on the DL. Do we expect him to RS?

Aug 19 2015, 11:37 AM

srchat: No, he's in the two-deeps as a backup defensive end. He's pretty good in the run game and had a couple sacks recently, but he's still getting used to things and the Cougars have good players ahead of him.

Aug 19 2015, 11:37 AM

Guest8808 (guest): What is your take on the new linebacker coach for Michigan and how do the players respond?

Aug 19 2015, 11:38 AM

srchat: Roy Manning, the linebackers coach from Michigan? He's very energetic and personable -- he's one of their best recruiters -- and the players seem to like him a lot. He does a lot of one-on-one technique work with the outside linebackers and also coaches the nickel backs.

Aug 19 2015, 11:38 AM

Guest5555 (guest): Who is the best/most consistent player on defense? The guy that you always see making plays and being in the right place at the right time?

Aug 19 2015, 11:38 AM

srchat: Jeremiah Allison. After him, Charleston White always seems to be in the right place or able to get there in time.

Aug 19 2015, 11:39 AM

Guest1320 (guest): Greg Hoyd LB still on the team?

Aug 19 2015, 11:39 AM

srchat: Yes.

Aug 19 2015, 11:39 AM

Guest3301 (guest): Shalom still starting when white Returns?

Aug 19 2015, 11:39 AM

srchat: They play different positions. When White returns to the starting lineup, he will take the place of Darrien Molton.

Aug 19 2015, 11:40 AM

Jonthecoug: How is Bender progressing?

Aug 19 2015, 11:41 AM

srchat: Bender's come along nicely. He throws a really good ball and routinely completes some passes downfield with great arc, spiral and accuracy.

Aug 19 2015, 11:41 AM

Guest1320 (guest): maybe I missed it but give us your one or two guys that fans will be saying "who is that?" and surprise us this year.

Aug 19 2015, 11:41 AM

srchat: I doubt the casual fan knows who Shalom Luani is, but I think they will by the end of the season. I also think Tyler Baker could have a big year.

Aug 19 2015, 11:43 AM

Guest5571 (guest): When practices become closed will they still practice on the practice field/stadium? What part of those practices are you allowed to stay for?

Aug 19 2015, 11:43 AM

srchat: We're typically allowed to stay for the part when the entire team is at Rogers Field, and a couple minutes once the offense moves in to Martin Stadium. Then we skeedaddle.

Aug 19 2015, 11:45 AM

Jonthecoug: How is the battle at nose tackle shaping up?

Aug 19 2015, 11:45 AM

srchat: It's pretty close between Robert Barber and Daniel Ekuale. I also expect Ngalu Tapa to see time and make some big plays, but won't be on the field as much as the other two.

Aug 19 2015, 11:45 AM

Guest9280 (guest): Do the Cougs finally get a special teams touchdown this year and end the drought?

Aug 19 2015, 11:45 AM

srchat: Priester definitely seems like the type who could break one. I'll say yes.

Aug 19 2015, 11:45 AM

Guest3301 (guest): How do you expect James Williams to progress?

Aug 19 2015, 11:47 AM

srchat: I don't anticipate him playing this year. But another year to recover from his knee injury and get stronger will be good. I expect he'll work his way into the rotation next year and breakout as a key player as a redshirt sophomore.

Aug 19 2015, 11:47 AM

Guest7380 (guest): How does Taliulu look this season compared to last?

Aug 19 2015, 11:47 AM

srchat: Seems like he's studied his film. He's more often in the right place and making the right reads, but still struggles at times against the really good athletes.

Aug 19 2015, 11:47 AM

Guest6207 (guest): Coming in late so sorry if that has been asked. Is there a noticeable difference in the way Calvin Green looked last year picking up this offense compared to Priester and Martin this year?

Aug 19 2015, 11:48 AM

srchat: Honestly, they all pick it up pretty quick. It's not a complicated offense, the receivers really just need to learn some routes and terminology. I haven't noticed a lack of knowledge of the offense hold any receivers back.

Aug 19 2015, 11:48 AM

ConcreteGray (guest): Any word on replacing me as the offical helmet color? Anthracite perhaps? Any word on possible jersey/helmet upgrades?

Aug 19 2015, 11:48 AM

srchat: Good news, you're here to stay!

Aug 19 2015, 11:49 AM

Guest5555 (guest): There was a clemson transfer at LB who made a big hit in the spring game...where has he been and how is he doing?

Aug 19 2015, 11:50 AM

srchat: Wide receiver Kyrin Priester is the Clemson transfer. The linebacker transfer is from Nevada, Reggie Coates, and he's been running with the second unit as a defensive end. He's been a good pass rusher.

Aug 19 2015, 11:50 AM

Ryan Rylee: Any word on Barry Ware?? And who are your starting safeties first game??

srchat: Still no sign of Ware. Isaac Dotson and Taylor Taliulu at safety, unless Dotson is moved to nickel, in which case Luani would take his spot.

Aug 19 2015, 11:50 AM

Guest7398 (guest): Just got here, but how does the punter look?

Aug 19 2015, 11:51 AM

srchat: Erik Powell seems to be ahead of Zach Charme at this point. He's been OK, not great.

Aug 19 2015, 11:51 AM

Guest3301 (guest): Any insight on fehoko?

Aug 19 2015, 11:51 AM

srchat: He's at most practices in street clothes. WazzuWatch.com reported that he sustained a leg injury over the summer.

Aug 19 2015, 11:51 AM

Jonthecoug: Does Martin have a chance to be a special player down the road? Looks like he really needs to add weight

Aug 19 2015, 11:52 AM

srchat: It looks like he has a great chance of making the two-deep of a talented receiver group as a true freshman, so I'd definitely say he can be special. I'd agree that he could use another 15 pounds, as well.

Aug 19 2015, 11:52 AM

Guest7380 (guest): Do you think Andre Dillard could do well if needed in Pac 12 game? and O'Connell?

Aug 19 2015, 11:52 AM

srchat: I think Dillard probably needs another year. O'Connell could probably hold his own in a pinch.

Aug 19 2015, 11:52 AM

Guest2851 (guest): Do you think the defense is ahead of where you thought they would be at this point in camp? Great coverage too!

Aug 19 2015, 11:53 AM

srchat: Thanks! Well, they were ahead of where I expected them to be in the scrimmage. But the defense didn't look too good yesterday.

Aug 19 2015, 11:55 AM

Ryan Rylee: I don't know if you've already made one, but what is your win/loss prediction for this season?

Aug 19 2015, 11:55 AM

srchat: I'm sticking with 5-7.

Aug 19 2015, 11:55 AM

Jonthecoug: After seeing this team for a couple weeks are you sticking with 5-7?

Aug 19 2015, 11:55 AM

srchat: Why yes.

Aug 19 2015, 11:55 AM

Guest7398 (guest): Do you see all the 1st team starting the first game on offense and defense or how many will be out because of injury or other reasons?

Aug 19 2015, 11:56 AM

srchat: White is the only 1st teamer that's currently out and I imagine he'll be back by Portland State. But, it's football, so I'd be surprised if there wasn't somebody unavailable that day.

Aug 19 2015, 11:56 AM

Guest3301 (guest): If someone were to surpass taliulu, who would it be? And how likely?

Aug 19 2015, 11:56 AM

srchat: I think there's a pretty good chance Shalom Luani passes him by Pac-12 play.

Aug 19 2015, 11:57 AM

Guest5571 (guest): If I could go to any road game this year, which should I go to?

Aug 19 2015, 11:57 AM

srchat: I would go to Cal. That will be a big game for both teams, a big test for both defenses and the Bay Area is always fun.

Aug 19 2015, 11:57 AM

Guest7939 (guest): If Martin ends up redshirting who would be the backup to Marks?

Aug 19 2015, 11:57 AM

srchat: Probably Zaire Andre, but I don't expect Martin to redshirt.

Aug 19 2015, 11:57 AM

Guest7380 (guest): Dotson must be pretty fast - doe he look as quick at Nickel as Lemora, Henry, Teglovic?

Aug 19 2015, 11:58 AM

srchat: No, I think they're definitely sacrificing speed for size when Dotson goes in.

Aug 19 2015, 11:58 AM

Guest9411 (guest): Any sighting of Destiny Vaeao yesterday?

Aug 19 2015, 11:58 AM

srchat: Yeah, Destiny was there.

Aug 19 2015, 11:58 AM

Guest4728 (guest): Thanks for answering our questions and all WSU coverage. Great stuff!

Aug 19 2015, 11:58 AM

srchat: You're very welcome.

Aug 19 2015, 11:59 AM

Guest9411 (guest): Was Destiny full go or was he limited?

Aug 19 2015, 11:59 AM

srchat: I'd say somewhat limited.

Aug 19 2015, 11:59 AM

Guest7398 (guest): Do you think the refs will be as tough on DB's this year for hard hits as in past? Seems like a lot of the attraction of football is being taken away.

Aug 19 2015, 12:00 PM

srchat: I think they're as tough but I think players have gotten better about abiding by the rules while still making hard hits. The new emphasis on head injuries has been around long enough now that a lot of these players started focusing on safer tackling in high school and so I expect there will continue to be fewer penalties.

Aug 19 2015, 12:00 PM

Ryan Rylee: Over or under our turnover margin from last year??

Aug 19 2015, 12:00 PM

srchat: They will have a better turnover margin this year.

Aug 19 2015, 12:00 PM

Guest7380 (guest): Cougs or Dawgs have a better record this season?

Aug 19 2015, 12:00 PM

srchat: Cougars are more likely to have a better record. But if UW's defense doesn't backslide as much as people expect, then I think the Huskies have an easier path to a bowl.

Aug 19 2015, 12:00 PM

Guest3301 (guest): Kyrin priester rec/yards prediction? Will tavares see the field?

Aug 19 2015, 12:01 PM

srchat: Priester prediction: 850 yards. Yes, Martin Jr. will play.

Aug 19 2015, 12:01 PM

Guest690 (guest): I've read a few reports that say the kickoff coverage team is giving up a touchdown on just about every rep during practice. That seems bad! Should we maybe consider just kicking onside every time? Gadzooks!

Aug 19 2015, 12:02 PM

srchat: I would disagree with those reports. When they do kickoff coverage/return drills they're rarely at full speed and the players are told not to bring the ballcarrier to the ground, and the ballcarrier is told to keep running, meaning they're going to get "touchdowns" pretty frequently. The best coverage unit in the world would still be giving up those "touchdowns."

Aug 19 2015, 12:02 PM

Guest1320 (guest): uw prediction has changed from a month ago

Aug 19 2015, 12:03 PM

srchat: The teams have changed from a month ago. UW just lost its only returning starter on the offensive line, WSU got Priester eligible, etc.

Aug 19 2015, 12:03 PM

Guest7380 (guest): Your picks for NFL potential seniors off this team?

Aug 19 2015, 12:03 PM

srchat: I think Dom Williams and Joe Dahl have good chances of getting drafted. Guys like Destiny Vaeao and Gunnar Eklund will find themselves in camp.

Aug 19 2015, 12:04 PM

Guest690 (guest): Boy, THAT'S a relief! Thanks, Jacob, for knowing what the hell you're talking about.

Aug 19 2015, 12:04 PM

srchat: No worries. It's tough to know what you're watching sometimes at practice and thankfully I've been around long enough to get a feel for it.

Aug 19 2015, 12:05 PM

Guest7398 (guest): Special teams have a lot of us scared after last year. You seem to think improved. Will we be able to watch this year when they come on the field.

Guest5571 (guest): Thank you for the great coverage of the Cougs! You do a great job!

Aug 19 2015, 12:05 PM

srchat: Thank you, sir.

Aug 19 2015, 12:05 PM

srchat: Or madam.

Aug 19 2015, 12:05 PM

CapleofChristian (guest): Jacob, do you think Cougar fans are overselling Ky Priester? He hasn't played a game yet and people are already calling him best player on team. Reminds me of when Falk tore up OSU and people claimed he was the next Bledsoe. We all saw how Falk ended the season...

Aug 19 2015, 12:06 PM

srchat: Well, I really don't think it's a stretch to say that he's been one of the best players on the team over camp and spring practices. If WSU fans are expecting Vince Mayle-like stats, that's probably not going to happen. But he's really got a unique combination of speed, strength and skill that I'm not sure anyone else on the team can match.

Guest3301 (guest): Who do the coughs upset this year? Why?

Aug 19 2015, 12:07 PM

srchat: Coughs are always upsetting because they're painful.

Aug 19 2015, 12:08 PM

srchat: The Cougars upset Stanford because they're big enough on the offensive and defensive lines now to not get beaten up.

Aug 19 2015, 12:08 PM

Guest3301 (guest): Nice one

Aug 19 2015, 12:08 PM

srchat: Thanks.

Aug 19 2015, 12:08 PM

Guest9411 (guest): you'da man, Thorpe, you've done a phenomenal job this camp. Also like the addition of Chazanow and Stefanie Loh at the Seattle Times. CapleofChristian, Falk played pretty well in Apple Cup, receivers absolutely killed him. ASU 2nd half was pretty bad, I will give you that.

Aug 19 2015, 12:08 PM

Guest7380 (guest): Do you think Molton could do ok if necessary this season?

Aug 19 2015, 12:09 PM

srchat: I think he'd do well on a majority of plays. The problem is, he plays a position where you've got to be almost perfect. If you play very well on 80 percent of your snaps, you're giving up an explosive play at least once a series. I think Molton would do fine and maybe even snare a few picks, but I also think he'd get beat deep and that's what people would remember.

Aug 19 2015, 12:09 PM

Guest6854 (guest): These questions may have already been answered, any word on missing players from practice? Broughton?

Aug 19 2015, 12:10 PM

srchat: Green arrived, Toki will enroll in the spring. Broughton vaguely hinted on Twitter that he got a good test score -- we'll see if he's at practice once classes start. No sign of Barry Ware

Aug 19 2015, 12:10 PM

Guest7398 (guest): UCLA win the south? Conference?

Aug 19 2015, 12:10 PM

srchat: I'm higher on USC in the south. And frankly, I think both Arizona schools are in better shape than UCLA. But others whose opinions I respect disagree.

Aug 19 2015, 12:11 PM

Guest6854 (guest): Haven't heard much about Barry Ware

Aug 19 2015, 12:11 PM

srchat: Haven't seen much of Barry Ware.

Aug 19 2015, 12:12 PM

srchat: The starting safeties have been Isaac Dotson and Taylor Taliulu. The backup safeties in the scrimmage were Shalom Luani and Willie Roach. At nickel it's been Lemora, Teglovic, Parker, but we've also seen Dotson slide over.

Aug 19 2015, 12:12 PM

Guest4585 (guest): Hows the two deep in the saftey and nickel back look like?

Aug 19 2015, 12:12 PM

srchat: Sorry, the answer came before the question on that last one.

Aug 19 2015, 12:12 PM

srchat: Just two more questions, everyone, then I have to call it.

Aug 19 2015, 12:12 PM

Guest7380 (guest): Dimry have speed enough to beat CBs deep?

Aug 19 2015, 12:13 PM

srchat: Dimry has pretty good speed. I don't know that he's blowing past any cornerbacks, but he could get a step on one and let his size do the rest.

Aug 19 2015, 12:13 PM

Guest6854 (guest): Which true freshmen will play this year?

Aug 19 2015, 12:14 PM

srchat: I expect Kyle Sweet, Tavares Martin Jr. and Darrien Molton to definitely play. Specialists Zach Charme and Matt Abramo could certainly play. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Kam Powell or Hunter Dale play.
