Game day for Zags, Broncos

Looks like it's just going to be one of those travel years. Oh well, we'll get there eventually.

Below, find a quick glance at tonight's Gonzaga-Santa Clara game and a short note on the Zags.

GONZAGA BULLDOGS

Coming up: Tonight at Santa Clara, 8 (ESPN2); Saturday at USF, 8:30 (ESPN2)

Outlook: The Zags beat Santa Clara by 22 and San Francisco by 31 last month in Spokane, but they always seem to have their hands full on the road against these Bay Area schools. Sam Dower Jr.’s 3-pointer gave GU a 54-52 win at the Leavey Center a year ago. Broncos guards Brandon Clark and Jared Brownridge combine for 30 points per game. Freshman forward Matt Hubbard, a Colville High product who scored 15 points against Gonzaga last month, averages 7.5 points. The Zags have won nine straight in the series and 31 of the last 33.

The Dons have lost three in a row by a combined 13 points. Forwards Kruize Pinkins (15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds) and Mark Tollefsen (14.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg) lead the offense.

LEADERS

Scoring: Kyle Wiltjer, 15.6

Rebounding: Domantas Sabonis, 7.0

Assists: Kevin Pangos, 4.7

Offense, defense

Gonzaga is one of two teams nationally that rank in the top 15 in field-goal percentage (52.8) and field-goal percentage defense (37.6). The Zags lead the nation in field-goal percentage.

SMU, which lost to GU 72-56 in November, also ranks in the top 15 in both categories.
