Eastern’s defense turns the page

The rebuilding of Eastern Washington's defense began on the ashes of last year's FCS playoff loss to Illinois State. The work is ongoing - witness the depth chart for Saturday's opener at Oregon, which has at least five redshirt freshmen or true freshman in starting roles, and nine in the two deep. Here's my story on the depth chart, plus this week's release from the EWU athletic department. From the Oregonian, there's this story on how the Ducks are tailoring  their offense to fit the talents of new QB Vernon Adams Jr. ... Austin Meek of the Register-Guard offers this commentary on Oregon going all-in on Adams. .... Farther afield, there's a new quarterback in Missoula, and he had a pretty good weekend against four-time FCS champ North Dakota State. ... EWU's week 2 opponent, Northern Iowa, opens with Iowa State
