EWU gets verbal from 3-star running back

With national letter of intent day less than two weeks away, Eastern Washington made a splash this weekend in Northern California.

Antoine Custer, a running back from Concord, California, posted on his Facebook page this week that he has made a verbal commitment to enroll at Eastern.

Custer, who earned a three-star rating from Scout.com, is a speedy 5-foot-8, 175-pounder from national power De La Salle High School. He had offers from Washington State, Wyoming and San Jose State.

Last year, Custer ran for 1,339 yards on 9.8 yards per carry and scored 15 touchdowns to lead De La Salle to a 13-1 record.

Letter of intent day is Feb. 3. As of Thursday, the Eagles have non-binding verbal commitments from at eight high school players, including three offensive linemen, two running backs, a cornerback and a wide receiver.

Among the recruits is 6-2, 215-pound running back Jason Talley, the younger brother of former Eastern running back and linebacker Jordan Talley. Both played for Portland powerhouse Jesuit High School.
